If you decide to take an IELTS on computer test you might know you will be completing the Listening, Reading and Writing tests on a computer and the Speaking test face-to-face with an IELTS examiner.

Taking IELTS on a computer offers many advantages, from more opportunities to sit the test to faster results - now in 1 to 5 days of sitting your IELTS test.

To help you make the right choice, whether to take IELTS on paper or computer, ask yourself the following:

  • Do I feel comfortable using technology, like computers?

  • Do I prefer using a keyboard over user a pen or pencil?

  • Can I type well on a keyboard?

  • Is it easier for me to read articles and content online, rather than in written form?

If you answered yes to all these questions, then you might consider taking an IELTS on computer test. Let's take a closer look at some of the advantages of sitting your IELTS test on a computer.

Advantage 1: Increased test availability

Depending on your test centre, it is likely that there is more test availability, meaning more test dates and times.

Some test centres will run IELTS on computer tests in the morning, afternoon and evening, giving you much more flexibility in choosing when you feel you can perform at your best.

More test availability will provide you with more flexibility and could help with planning and for meeting deadlines for a variety of things, including submitting applications for work, school, immigration, and more.

Advantage 2: Faster results

Another advantage of taking IELTS on computer is you will get your results faster. With IELTS on computer, your results will be available typically within 1 to 5 days compared to 13 days with the IELTS on paper test.

Advantage 3: No more messy writing

One concern we have heard from some who take the IELTS test is worrying about messy and hard-to-read handwriting. This will no longer be an issue with the IELTS on computer tests. That may be a relief for many people!

Advantage 4: Same content as IELTS on paper test

Here’s another bit of good news: the test material, question types and instructions in the IELTS on computer test will be the same as the IELTS on paper test. The only difference is that you use a computer for your test rather than using paper and a pencil.
